Parent Involvement

Mount Pleasant School Council  (MPSC)

A School Council is a group consisting of the principal, teachers, parents and community members who work together to promote the well-being and effectiveness of the entire school community and, thereby, enhance student learning.  A school council facilitates cooperation among all those who have an interest in the programs and policies of the local school.  School councils provide advice and consultation to the principal and trustees regarding educational issues.

Section 17 of the School Act states:

A school council shall be established in accordance with the regulations for each school operated by a board. The majority of the members of a school council shall be parents of students enrolled in the school.

Schools need parents to be part of the team.  Research provides evidence that parental involvement has more influence than anything else does on a child’s education.  It is important for parents to be effectively involved in the policies and decisions that affect their children. School councils provide one way for parents to become involved.

The Mount Pleasant School Council is made up of nine members: the principal, one teacher , two parents , and two school community members or ECS parents . Elections are held each fall at the Annual General Meeting.

Student learning is enhanced through the commitment, support, and the talent of the Mount Pleasant team. Staff, students, parents, and the community all work together to provide exciting and rewarding learning opportunities for our students.
